It's finally arrived in Africa, the Fifa 2010 world cup that is, and I've definitely caught the world cup bug :) The past 2 weeks have been a mad rush of chasing football teams and watching awesome world cup friendly's and matches. The fever started showing symptoms on the arrival of the Portuguese national side on the 6th of June in Magaliesburg at Bekker High School. Support for the team was far from lacking, thousands of soccer fans as well Cristiano Ronaldo stalkers waited eagerly for the teams’ bus to arrive, neither were disappointed :)
On the 11th of June was the friendly match between Portugal and Mozambique at wonderer’s stadium and at this point the fever was just about at full swing. Thousands of Portuguese supporters showed up once again. The stadium was filled to capacity and the fans were rewarded with a three nil victory over Mozambique :)
... I'm the one holding the scarf that says PORTUGAL :)
Finally on the 11th June the fever had reached its peak at the new Soccer City stadium in Soweto. The World cup opening! :) The atmosphere in the stadium was awesome, absolutely electrifying :) Even though the game ended in a draw, spirits were high and hopes for the South African national team had risen to new heights.
